Do not get lost in a sea of despair. Be hopeful, be optimistic. Our struggle is not the struggle of a day, a week, a month or a year, it is the struggle of a lifetime. Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble. - John Lewis
I believe that quality supervision is one of most important investments we can make as clinicians. It should be a space for self-exploration and honesty that is distinct from any personal therapeutic experience— there’s a lot of try, reflect, repeat! I hope that, through supervision, you are able to develop comfort in general clinical skills and find your own “voice” in specific therapeutic modalities.
Please know that I approach supervision from a framework of actively understanding and acknowledging the harm that has been perpetuated by our profession; we have a responsibility to not only become experts in specific therapeutic modalities but also engage in social justice to align fully with our code of ethics and address the systems that continue to oppress the people we are in service to. I hope that, if you choose to engage in supervision with me, you are prepared to really examine yourself and your engagement with systems of oppression in order to be the expert trouble makers social workers are meant to be.
