Therapy FAQ

  • How long does therapy last?

Some people are in therapy for 3 months, others for 10 years. The length or your therapy totally depends on what you are looking for! If you are looking for support for a specific issue such as a break-up or help making a decision, short term therapy may be right for you. If you need help developing self-esteem, healing old wounds and changing beliefs, or just long-term consistent support, longer term therapy may be a better fit for you. Either way, you will be in charge of how long you are in therapy. We will check in regarding your goals regularly so you can decide if you would like to continue in therapy or move on.

  • Do you see clients in person?

Not at this time. All appointments are done via telehealth.

  • How long are sessions and what are your fees?

All sessions run for 50 minutes (plus a couple minutes to schedule our next session, if needed) and are billed at the rate of $120.

I have limited sliding scale spots that are available at times; please contact me directly to discuss this. *Sliding scale spots are currently full.*

  • Do you have evening and weekend availability?

I have very limited evening and weekend availability. I am happy to talk about my current availability during our consultation to make sure our schedules can align.

  • Do you bill insurance?

We are out-of-network providers, which means we don’t accept payment from insurance companies directly. Your plan, however, may reimburse you a portion of your financial investment if you have out-of-network coverage. I can provide you with a monthly superbill for you to send into your insurance company to request reimbursement. I cannot guarantee your insurance company will reimburse you for services - this is something you will need to check.

Mental health services should be available to everyone and I understand that many people are only able to do so by utilizing their health insurance. However, the medical model that insurance companies use is in many ways pathologizing, oppressive, and controlling.

I do not work with insurance companies because we lose control over your treatment- they dictate what diagnoses will be covered, what type of therapy you need and how much you receive. Additionally, working with insurance means they have full access to my treatment notes regarding your care, including your diagnosis, all of which will become a part of your health record. By not working with insurance you and I can collaborate to create a totally individualized treatment plan that will remain fully confidential*.

*Exceptions to confidentiality include imminent risk of serious harm to self or others, child & elder abuse, and a court order.

  • What if I can't make a session?

Life happens! I ask that you notify me at least 24 hours in advance of any conflicts with our scheduled sessions. I do have a late cancellation fee of $120 if you cancel within 24 hours of your session.

Please note that, if you are seeking reimbursement from insurance for sessions, they will not reimburse for late cancellation fees.

If you have any additional questions, please know that the consultation is a great time to ask them. I have happy to talk through anything that will support you making the best decision for you.
