About Katia
Thanks so much for taking the time to try and get to know me.
I am choosing not to recount all my training and experience, but feel free to ask me for my resume if that is important to you.
When I think about my title as a social worker, I have mixed feelings-- I love the soul of social work. Social workers are fighters, revolutionaries. We have a sacred opportunity to help foster change in partnership with communities and to use our privilege to uplift the voices within those communities; however, I know that the title has perpetuated a lot of harm as well. I think it is important to acknowledge this harm in every part of my work, because, without that, I know I cannot support change in an authentic way.
I am human first, therapist second, and social worker always-- I commit 100% to living the values that led me to this role and to cause good trouble wherever I go. The rebel in me, the parts that dare to think differently and challenge the norm, are the qualities I am most proud of and what I hope to bring to the therapeutic relationship. It is a privilege and honor to do the work I do-- I take that seriously and with great care.
A little about me outside of my work--- I love baking, coffee, old-school hip hop, reality tv, and going to art museums. I will do anything to avoid doing dishes. I recently moved back to Portland after being in Denver, CO for the last 9 years- I can’t tell you how excited I am to be back in the PNW. On a typical night, you will find me hanging out with my son, partner, and two dogs, Mimosa & Spooner.
